Description

A pair of cottages dating from the early 19th century, possibly designed by or influenced by Henry Roberts. The cottages are constructed of brick with pale brick headers, and have Welsh slate roofs. Each cottage is two storeys high, featuring an advanced gable facing the street and a smaller recessed gable set at a right angle. Each front gable has a three-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor and a two-light window above. A brick and stone moulded eaves cornice runs along the top. Porches are situated in the angle of the two gables, each with a three-sided roof supported by wooden corbels featuring trefoiled spandrels, and over doorways with stone lintels. The gable wall of the rear gable contains two single-light windows on the ground floor, and a two-light wooden casement window above, with cambered brick heads. A central chimney stack is present. A brick garden wall with rounded brick coping is attached to the front gables of the cottages; it is included in the listing for group value.
