Description
The Church of St Mary and the adjoining house were built between 1833 and 1834 by William Flint of Leicester. The church is constructed of stucco and originally featured a chancel, which is now part of the larger church that was expanded in the 1920s with a five-bay nave added to the south. The church has a prominent south portico supported by four massive columns, with aisle windows framed in lugged architraves. Above the central door, there is a ceramic panel depicting the Annunciation. Inside, the original church has a ceiling with coved sides that rise from a cornice, and a west gallery with an iron railing decorated with palmettes. The interior has 20th-century fittings. The house to the west is two stories tall, double-fronted, and features a three-window range. It has giant pilasters that support an entablature, along with lugged architraves and bracketed cills. The doorcase is pilastered and includes a rectangular fanlight above a six-panelled door, of which two panels are now glazed. The house has 20th-century casement windows.
