Description
The School House is a cottage that was formerly a school, built in 1715 with some later modifications from the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with a granite rubble stone plinth and features a slate roof with rebuilt central ridge stacks on both the right and left sections, the latter being lower. The gable end has a door located on the right side. The right section is two storeys high and has three casement windows: two 2-light windows and one 1-light window above two 3-light windows, with a 2-light window to the left of the door. The left section includes a door and two 2-light casements, along with two 2-light windows and one 1-light window above. Some windows have cambered lintels, and there are blocked windows at the rear. An outshut with a 2-light casement is located on the left end. The school was built and endowed in 1715 by Richard Hill, the rector of Thurcaston.
