Description

Number 2 High Street is a farmhouse, now a house, built around 1780 with alterations made around 1900 and in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick with pale brick headers, featuring concrete tile and patent pantile roofs with moulded brick eaves. It has gable stacks and is designed in an L-shape over three storeys.

The street-facing side has three windows. There is a central glazed wooden porch from around 1900, which sits on a brick plinth. The original wooden doorcase features an eared surround and a cornice supported by brackets, with a part-glazed door added around 1900. On either side of the porch are single tripartite windows with glazing bars in the upper lights. Above the porch, there is a central two-light window flanked by additional tripartite windows, all with glazing bars in the upper lights. The top floor has a central two-light window and flanking tripartite windows, again with glazing bar upper lights. The rear side of the building is blind, with a blocked tall central staircase window, and the fenestration in the converted rear wings is mostly from the late 20th century.

Inside, there is a central hardwood dog-leg staircase with square newels, a Chinese Chippendale balustrade, and a moulded handrail. The room to the right features an exposed spine beam and a fireplace bressummer, while the corresponding room above has cased beams. The top floor rooms retain original four-panel doors. The rear range includes exposed timber in two ground floor rooms, with one beam displaying shaped stops.
