Description

Castle Farmhouse is a restaurant built around 1760 to 1770, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of red brick and features a 20th-century interlocking tile roof, with flanking brick chimneys that have pairs of linked square shafts. It has an L-plan layout with extensions to the rear wing, located at the rear angle and to the right of the front wing.

The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-bay front. It includes a plinth, offset band courses at the first and second floor levels, and a moulded brick eaves cornice with modillions. The gable verges are decorated with a zig-zag pattern. The outer bays on the ground floor have 20th-century flat-roofed wooden oriel windows supported by brackets. The first floor features 20th-century barred wooden casements with transoms, with three-light windows flanking a two-light window, all retaining original gauged brick heads. A large 20th-century flat-roofed dormer is located on the left side. The central entrance consists of a 20th-century half-glazed door topped with a gabled wooden hood on brackets.

To the right, there is a 20th-century single-storey brick and slate extension that is not of special interest. The rear wing of the original structure has one and a half bays, with 20th-century windows similar to those at the front and a 20th-century door with gauged heads. A full-height extension from the 19th century is located at the far end, along with further 20th-century extensions in the rear angle.
