Description
The Poplars is a house located on Main Street in Kirby Muxloe, built in the late 18th century to very early 19th century, with a later 19th-century extension at the rear and a late 19th-century porch. The structure is made of brick and features a moulded wooden eaves cornice with modillions, a hipped slate roof, and a central brick chimney. It is a double pile building with three storeys and a three-bay front. The second storey has three-pane sash windows that are square and have gauged brick heads. The central 19th-century porch has a flat roof with a rendered parapet and cornice, and the door is six-panelled with a semicircular fanlight set in a rendered arch with a keyblock. Above the keyblock, a plain frieze breaks forward. On the left side of the house, there is a tall central stair window with marginal glazing, and to the left, one bay features horizontal sliding sashes, along with a 20th-century wooden window on the top floor. The right side of the house has two bays of sash windows. The 19th-century extension at the rear is two storeys high.
