Description

The Bakehouse is a farmhouse, outbuildings, and cottages dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. The farmhouse faces the street and is constructed of brick with a concrete tiled roof, which may have been raised in the late 19th century. It is two stories high and has a two-unit plan, featuring a central six-panelled door set in a slight architrave with paired console brackets. On each floor, there are three-light casement windows flanking the door. To the right, there is a small single-storey wash house with a Swithland slate roof.

The rear wing of the farmhouse is both recessed and advanced to the west, showcasing an upper Gothick lancet window beneath a drop-ended hoodmould in the gable end, along with two horizontally sliding sash windows on the long elevation. Behind this, a parallel rear wing extends as outbuildings that were formerly pig sties, and at right angles to this are two cottages made of brick with Welsh slate roofs.

One cottage has a two-unit plan with a doorway to the right and a three-light casement window to the left, both featuring cambered brick heads. The upper windows are two-light horizontally sliding sashes, and there is an axial stack. The other cottage is a single unit with a doorway to the right, a two-light casement window on the ground floor, and a horizontally sliding sash window above, topped with a lower roof and a gable end stack. The inner face of the former pig sties has three doors that have been converted into windows, with three-light horizontally sliding sash windows above. The inner rear wing of the house includes a central doorway framed in a moulded wood architrave with a canopy supported by console brackets.
