Description

The farm buildings at Sapperton Manor, dating from the early 19th century, include a thrashing barn, cowsheds, stables, and surrounding walls, all arranged around a crew yard. They are constructed of red brick with minimal stone dressings and feature plain tile roofs with stone coped gables. The buildings are one and two storeys high.

The north range contains a cowshed with a loft above and a central tower topped with a pyramid roof and a weather vane. The south elevation has nine bays, with the tower featuring a round-arched doorway and a later window to the left, along with another round-arched doorway and a clock face above. A dovecote is located below the eaves with landing boards. To the left of the tower, there is a segment-headed window, followed by a segment-headed door, another similar window, and another similar door. Above these, there are four rectangular windows. The right side of the elevation mirrors the left but is partly obscured by laser brick buttressing.

There is a three-bay return elevation to the stables along the west side, while the east side has an altered return elevation linked to a tall two-storey thrashing barn. The west elevation features a tall elliptical-arched cart entrance on the left, a lower cart entrance to the right, and three segment-headed windows along with one altered window, replacing a breather opening. Two tiers of breather openings are arranged in diamond patterns, with three below and four above, and there are two circular pitching eyes.

In the southeast corner, there is an L-shaped range of stables with four segment-headed doorways and a window. The attached walls have stone copings and curve into the entrance. The west side of the crew yard has a tall stone-coped wall, along with a 20th-century covered yard that is not of listable quality. The stable block in the southwest angle is designed in a similar style, with an attached low curved wall at the entrance. Stone-coped walls and gate piers are also attached at the southwest angle, forming a garden wall for the manor house.
