Description
The stable block, located to the east of the kennels at Elvaston Castle, was built in 1870 for the Earl of Harrington. It is constructed of red brick with blue and yellow brick dressings and features slate roofs with blue and yellow brick dentilled eaves. The building consists of three bays and is a single storey. The central bay is gabled and has pilaster strips on either side with dentilled tops, along with a central semi-circular headed doorcase that contains a plank door and a tall divided overlight. Above this doorcase is a datestone inscribed 'AD 1870', and above that is a small circular opening. On either side of the central bay are lower lean-to type bays, each featuring a segmental headed doorcase, a stable door, and a divided overlight. This stable block is included in the listing for its group value.
