Description
Wingerworth Methodist Church is a Nonconformist chapel built in 1849. It is constructed from coursed squared Coal Measures Sandstone with ashlar dressings, featuring quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, and a Welsh slate roof. The north-east elevation has a gable facing the street, with a central doorway and flanking single-light windows, all topped with steeply pointed arched heads. The doorway has an ashlar surround and a plain planked door with a pointed arched overlight. The windows also have ashlar surrounds and diamond-paned cast-iron frames with rectangular margin panes. There is a plain band course at the level of the kneelers and an inscribed tablet at the gable apex that reads 'SALEM INDEPENDENT CHAPEL 1849'. The side elevations feature two pointed arched windows with cast-iron frames. The interior is plain.
