Description
This building is a row of five shops and a masonic hall located on Henry Street in Glossop. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The structure is made of coursed squared millstone grit, featuring tooled dressings and Welsh slate roofs, which include panelled stacks and some truncated stacks. Originally, there were four units, with a fifth unit added later.
The exterior consists of two storeys, with a basement for Nos. 10 and 12. The street front has a range of nine windows. Bays 3, 4, 7, 8, and 9 contain four-pane hornless sash windows. The ground floor has eleven bays, with cart entrances at the end bays; the entrance to the right is set back and features rusticated voussoirs to the arch and channelled rustication. There are entrance doorways at bays 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9. A moulded cornice runs above Nos. 12-18, with a plain frieze beneath.
No. 12 has a 20th-century door with an overlight, flanked by pilasters with bases and capitals, and a large shop window to the right, which has 20th-century decoration on the sill. No. 14 features a fine fielded and panelled door with a glazed overlight that reads "Masonic Hall," along with stone architraves and a cornice on consoles. No. 18 has a similar door surround. No. 16 has a 20th-century door with a shop window to the right, where the window lintel is supported by engaged pillars with capitals. The interior has not been inspected.
