Description
This is a row of eight back-to-back houses, now functioning as four houses, built in the early 19th century with some alterations made in the 20th century. The structure is made of coursed millstone grit in diminishing courses, featuring ashlar dressings, stone slate roofs, and four stone stacks with watertabling. The eaves are supported by console-shaped corbels.
The exterior is two stories high, with a front elevation that includes an eight-window range. There are four double-fronted houses, each with a central doorway framed in flush ashlar. Nos. 3 and 9 still have their original panel doors, while on either side are single 20th-century casement windows. Above, there are eight similar casement windows at eaves level, and No. 3 has an inserted small casement window.
The left end elevation features a blank canted corner, while the right elevation displays watershot masonry. The rear elevation resembles the front, but No. 9 has wedge lintels above its window openings, and No. 5 has an inserted first-floor window. The interior has not been inspected.
