Description
Sawley Rectory is a rectory built around 1823, with additions made in the mid 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, featuring brick and stone dressings. The building has a hipped slate roof with wide overhanging eaves and brick stacks at the ridge and side walls. It stands two storeys high and has four bays.
The main elevation includes mid 19th century square bay windows at each end, each featuring a central tripartite glazing bar sash set within a pilastered stone surround, topped with a stone cornice. Between these bays, there is a delicate mid 19th century ironwork verandah with two early 19th century glazing bar sashes behind it. Above the verandah, there are four uneven glazing bar sashes. The western bay is a mid 19th century addition and has two decorative inset panels on its western elevation. There is a recessed addition to the east and a rear addition that is of no particular interest. The building is included for its group value only.
