Description
The walls and gates adjacent to Ashbourne Lodge were built around 1828 by L N Cottingham. They are constructed from sandstone and wood, featuring ironwork. The plain sandstone walls have bolection moulded copings and step up near the central gatepiers. The gatepiers have octagonal bases with a fillet at the top and octagonal stems, also with a fillet at the top. The capitals are octagonal at the base with pyramidal tops that are edged by cable moulding. The central gate consists of a grid frame with panels in the lower two rows and decorative ironwork in the upper two rows. At either end of the walls, there are small octagonal stone piers topped with octagonal domed capitals. This structure is included for its group value only.
