Description

6 St John’s Street is a mid-19th century building constructed of ashlar. It is two storeys high, with the lower level rusticated. The front features three sash windows, each framed by simple architraves and topped with cornice hoods supported on consoles. A continuous sill band and a plain floor band run across the facade. A recessed doorcase on the right-hand side contains a rectangular fanlight above the door, flanked by coupled pilasters, a plain entablature, and a cornice hood. A bold modillion cornice runs along the top of the building, finished with a blocking course. A screen wall on the right-hand side contains two arched openings, one blocked, and a door with nine panels. The building is part of a group with Nos. 4 to 14 (even) and the Former Wirksworth Maternity Home.
