Description
The fountain, located 5 metres south of the ruined hall at Snelston, was built around 1828 by L N Cottingham. It is made of sandstone and has an octagonal shape with small semi-circular lobes on four sides, centering around a tall moulded pier. The walls at the base are approximately 2 feet high and feature a moulded exterior. The central pier is also octagonal and has a frieze of shields just above the water level. The pier then flares outwards, topped with a cornice that has carved heads on each side, from which lead pipes once flowed water. Above this is a shallow base that previously supported a large basin, which is no longer present.
