Description

Nos 7 and 8 on Church Street are a pair of buildings dating from 1675, with early 18th-century features and early 19th-century alterations. They are roughcast and consist of two storeys plus an attic, with a central section and two projecting gabled wings. The buildings have a total of five early 19th-century Gothick 2-light sash windows featuring pointed glazing bars and drip moulds. The central doorway is adorned with a square fanlight and a six-fielded-panelled door. The gables are coped, and there is a parapet along the top. A lead rainwater head bears the initials IG and the date 1719. Inside, there is a notable contemporary staircase with open strings and turned spiral balusters. These buildings were formerly a rectory and were home to the Rev. Francis Gisborne from 1732 to 1821, who was the founder of many charities in Derbyshire.
