Description
This is a terrace of eight cottages built around 1891-1894, likely designed by Brewill & Baily. They were constructed as part of the 'Model Village' created by the Bolsover Colliery Company to provide housing for its workers, following Garden Suburb design principles. The cottages are built of red brick with ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof and decorative ridge cresting, and feature brick ridge stacks. They are two storeys high with attics. The design is symmetrical, with pairs of cottages sharing features. Each pair has two 3-light casement windows with ashlar surrounds, alongside doorways that have ashlar lintels, panelled doors, and overlights. Above the doorways are two 2-light cross casements set beneath stop-chamfered ashlar lintels. All casements contain small panes of glass. Brick walls attached to the rear of the cottages enclose the back yards.
