Description

This is a terrace of eight cottages built around 1891-94, likely designed by Brewill & Baily. The cottages were constructed as part of the 'Model Village' created by the Bolsover Colliery Company to provide housing for its workers, reflecting principles of garden suburb design.

The buildings are of red brick construction with ashlar dressings and have Welsh slate roofs with decorative ridge cresting. Brick ridge stacks are visible. The terrace is two storeys high with attics. A decorative band runs along the first floor, and the eaves feature a sawtooth cornice. The terrace is designed with a slight upward step as it follows the hillside, reflected in the roof lines. The cottages are treated as symmetrical pairs.

Each pair of cottages has two 3-light casement windows in ashlar surrounds, with doorways featuring ashlar lintels, panelled doors, and overlights. Above these are two 2-light cross casements under stop-chamfered ashlar lintels. Gabled dormers are present above the second floor, each with a 2-light casement set beneath a chamfered ashlar lintel. All casements feature small-paned glazing. Walls attached to the rear of the properties enclose the back yards.
