Description

Milepost from the mid 19th century made of cast iron. It has a dished upper face with the inscription 'PARISH OF PENTRICH' and 'J HAYWOOD JNR'. The northeast face indicates 'DERBY 11 MILES', while the southwest face lists distances to Clay Cross (7 miles), Chesterfield (12 miles), Dronfield (18 miles), and Sheffield (23 miles). This milepost is located along the former direct turnpike route between Derby and Sheffield, as shown on Burdett's map of Derbyshire from 1762-1767.
