Description
The Former Canal Lengthmans Cottage is a late 18th-century building located in the parish of Dethick, Lea and Holloway, near the Lea Wood Aqueduct and the Lea Wood cut, which connects the canal to Lea Bridge. It is constructed from coursed rubble gritstone and features plain gables, end brick stacks, and a stone slated roof. The cottage is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with plain stone frames around the window openings located at each end bay. There are two doorways with plain stone surrounds, although one doorway has been blocked and converted into a window opening. Currently, all door and window joinery is missing. The cottage likely served the nearby waterway.
