Description
Nos 7 to 20 Long Row is a row of early industrial housing built between 1794 and 1797 by William Strutt for workers at the new mills and warehouses in Belper. This long terrace of stone houses is situated on a hillside and features a pitched slate roof. The buildings are three storeys high, generally with one window each, although some have additional small first-floor windows above the doors. The doors and windows are topped with massive stone lintels. Nos 8, 11, and Nos 13 to 17 have sash windows with late 19th-century glazing, while the rest feature modern glazing in the original sash spaces. The plans of the adjoining houses interlock to make the best use of the frontage. Each front garden is surrounded by stone kerbs.
