Description
Riddings Farmhouse is a mid 19th-century farmhouse constructed of red brick with stone dressings and slate roofs. It features barge-boarded overhanging eaves, brick ridge stacks, and a blue brick cogged eaves band. The building is two storeys plus attics and has an L-plan with two bays. It has a chamfered plinth. The main front has an advanced bay to the left, which includes a two-storey stone canted bay beneath a hipped roof. Each floor of this bay has 4-pane sash windows at the front and 2-pane sash windows on the sides, all with bracketed sills and cornices supported by paired foliage consoles. The first-floor windows have raised panels below. Above the gable, there is a star-shaped window cut from a square stone block. The right bay features 4-pane sash windows in quoined chamfered surrounds, with bracketed sills and dripmoulds on each floor. Similar windows are found on the return walls. The entrance is located on the right return and accessed through an original glazed porch. This farmhouse is part of the home farm associated with Riddings House, the residence of local iron founder Oakes, and is included for its group value.
