Description
This is a tramway bridge built around 1840, located 8 metres north of the railway bridge over the River Amber. It features rock-faced ashlar stone with brick dressings. The bridge has two wide segmental arches made of brick, supported by ashlar jambs, with ashlar stone used for the spandrels. The top of the bridge has copings but no parapets, and there are additional arches to the east that are now buried. The surface of the bridge slopes distinctly down to the west. It is likely that this bridge was part of a former tramway connecting Stephenson's lime works to the A6, constructed at the same time as the adjacent railway in 1840.
