Description
The Black Swan Inn and its adjoining outbuilding, located on Wirksworth Road, is a public house dating from the early 19th century. The inn features a red brick front with roughcast sides and rear, broad end ridge stacks, and deeply projecting eaves, all topped by a Welsh slated roof. It is two storeys high and has three bays, with two-storey brick canted bays flanking a central doorway that has a later gabled open porch. The ground floor bay windows are glazed on three sides, while the upper floors have glazing only on the front face. The windows have four-centred arched heads with gothic intersecting glazing bars and central opening lights.
The adjoining outbuilding, located at the southeast end, is also from the 19th century and constructed from coursed squared gritstone with a plain tiled roof. It is a single storey with attics and features gabled dormers. The ground floor doors have been altered with 20th-century joinery and are framed with segmental-headed cast iron frames that include glazing bars.
