Description

The north wing of Dalley Farmhouse is a building that is believed to have originally been a shepherd's cottage from the late 16th century, although the oldest visible section dates from the 17th century. The main eastern facade is constructed of coursed stone and features an old slate roof with an off-centre stack. The building is two storeys high and has two windows with 2-light unbarred sashes, along with an off-centre six-panelled door, of which the top two panels are now glazed. This wing extends into the southern part of the adjoining entrance range, which has two ground floor windows.

At the rear, the structure connects to a 19th-century red brick two-storey range, which is said to have been a former stocking factory. This section includes three first-floor windows with iron casements that have centre opening lights, and the ground floor features an outshut at the front with two similar windows.

Inside, the oldest part of the house showcases exposed ceiling beams and a stone fireplace. A former first-floor end mullioned window has been replaced by a door. The 19th-century section retains remnants of metal brackets that may have been used for stocking frames. The kitchen in this area includes a baking oven with a separate chimney and an iron-framed ceiling made of stone slabs.
