Description
The Lion Hotel is an early to mid-19th century building that has undergone later modifications. The facade is rendered and painted white, featuring full-height pilasters on either side of the facade and at the sides of the carriageway entrance. These pilasters display a Belper variant of the Greek Key motif. The building consists of two sections: the south side has three storeys with four windows on the top floor, which have a sill band below. The three first-floor windows are topped with pediments. The ground floor features a central door beneath a later pedimented canopy. The north side is two storeys tall, matching the height of the south side, and has three windows on the first floor, each with segmental pediments above. All windows are sash types with glazing bars. The ground floor includes later public house windows, with those on the northern part arranged in a shop front that has a cornice and pilasters. There are double carriageway doors at the rear.
