Description
Monkey Tree Cottage is a house originally built in the late 16th to 17th century, which was refronted and has a plaque dated 1774. The front is made of ironstone ashlar with pale limestone dressings, while the rest of the building is constructed from rubble stone, with the rear featuring banded limestone and ironstone. The cottage was formerly thatched but now has a 20th-century interlocking tile roof supported by concrete block eaves. It has flanking chimneys made of limestone and ironstone. The house is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with limestone quoins and courses for the sills and lintels. The windows are wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars, all replaced in the 20th century, featuring three-light windows flanking a two-light window. There is a 20th-century door to the left with a date plaque above it. The ground floor openings have shaped lintels and triple keyblocks, with the doorway's keyblock being moulded. A 20th-century wing has been added to the rear of the right bay. Inside, the left bay contains a deeply chamfered cross beam with moulded stops and a stop-chamfered wooden lintel above the fireplace.
