Description

Meadow Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th to early 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and the front wall reconstructed around 1980. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble, with a Collyweston slate roof, coped gables, and rebuilt brick chimneys. It is a double-pile building, two storeys high and three bays wide. The front elevation features a flush limestone band course above the lower windows and mid-19th century sash windows, which were replaced around 1980. The outer bays have tripartite windows, while the first floor centre has a single window. A central half-glazed door is topped with a rectangular fanlight. All the window and door openings are arched with flat limestone and keyblocks. Inside, the main ceiling features deeply chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. A room to the rear right contains a large fireplace with an ovolo-moulded wooden lintel shaped into a four-centred arch, which is roughly inscribed with the date 1732. The soffit of the arch and one of the upper storey ceiling beams have raised triangular details at each end. There is also a mid-19th century slate fireplace with incised line ornament and flanking semi-circular headed recesses in the front room.
