Description
The Old School and School House is a pair of houses that were originally built as a school and school house in 1862, with an extension added in 1872. The structure is made of coursed squared stone, featuring stone, buff, and blue brick dressings, as well as blue brick banding. It has a Collyweston slate roof with stone and buff brick ridge and side stacks. The principal gables are adorned with plain barge boards that are cusped at the apex. The building presents an irregular gabled design of one and one-and-a-half storeys.
The front facing Main Street includes a 20th-century double door in a one-storey extension on the left, followed by a tall triple lancet window in the centre gable, and two three-light casements with a side stack to the right. The rear features various windows and doors, including another triple lancet, a two-light and a three-light casement, a door with an overlight between, and two two-light dormers above. The building is included for its group value with Durant Farmhouse and barn.
