Description

The monument to Edward Thring is a late 19th-century monumental cross located in the churchyard on the east side of London Road in Uppingham. Made of grey granite, the cross features a Celtic style with finely-carved roundels. It commemorates Edward Thring, the headmaster of Uppingham School, who was instrumental in its expansion and development and passed away in 1887. The inscription reads, "This cross was erected to the memory of a beloved teacher by those of his boys who were at Uppingham Oct 22 1887."
