Description
Rectory Cottage is a house and former school room, now entirely used as a domestic residence, dated 1832 as indicated by a plaque. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone and features roofs made of Collyweston stone slate. It is two storeys high with a two-window range. The south side has a coped gable and an end stack. On the first floor, there are two-light casement windows with leaded panes, cambered heads, and cills. A 20th-century lean-to addition on the ground floor, which has a glazed door flanked by two windows, obscures the original doorway on the right side. This original doorway features a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars and a school bell in a square frame with a long iron bell-pull. The school room, located to the north and consisting of one storey, has two windows similar to those on the first floor of the house, but these have shutters. Between the windows is a plaque that reads, "This school was built by the C Dow of Pomfret and the rector 1832." There is a lateral stack and a lean-to addition at the rear.
