Description

The former pier capital or font at the churchyard of St. Andrew dates from the 12th or 13th century and is made of stone. It has a weathered square shape resembling a capital, with leaves carved at the corners and a basin in the center that is filled with soil. This structure stands on the grass to the southwest of the south aisle of the church. It was brought from Grange Farm in Whissendine around 1940 and is believed to have been used as the church font before the current font from the Perpendicular period was installed.
