Description

The Manor House is a house from the 17th century, with earlier origins and 19th-century alterations, located on Station Road in Whissendine. It is constructed of coursed squared rubble stone, featuring stone dressings, a plinth, a moulded band at the first floor, and a Welsh slate roof with a stone central ridge and end stacks. The gables are shouldered, coped with stone, and topped with finials, while hood moulds adorn the first and second floor windows. The entrance front is to the left, and the house has 2½ storeys with stone mullion windows. To the left, there is a projecting 19th-century one-storey extension. The central entrance features a stone and timber-framed gabled porch with a door and a 2-light window above, along with a 2-light dormer. To the left of the porch is a 4-light window with a 3-light mullion and transom window above, and a 3-light dormer. The left extension has a 2-light window on the inner return and another 2-light window on the front, with an additional window above. On the left end, there is a doorway with a moulded stone drop arch surround. The rear or garden front has a large projecting gable to the right, featuring a 4-light window on the ground floor, a pair of 2-light mullion and transom windows above, and a 4-light window in the gable. There is also a doorway with a stone frame in the inner return, along with two 3-light mullion and transom windows, a similar 2-light and 3-light window above, and a 3-light dormer. Inside, there is an early 17th-century stone fireplace with a moulded Tudor arch.
