Description

The Oakham Level Crossing Signal Box is a railway signal box built in 1901. It features a painted wood and metal structure topped with a hipped roof made of Welsh slate, complete with finials. This building is designed in the Midland Railway type 2B style and has steps leading up to the doorway and gangway. The windows are fitted with glazing bars. Notably, this signal box served as the prototype for the Airfix Model construction kit that has been in production since the 1950s. It is part of a group with the Oakham Level Crossing Footbridge and Oakham Railway Station.
