Description

13 and 14 Main Street are a pair of former cottages built in 1850, originally a row of four, and later converted to two dwellings in 2004-2005. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with a steeply-pitched roof of Collyweston stone slate. It has three ridge stacks with twin shafts set diagonally. The structure is one-and-a-half storeys high with a 1-4-1 arrangement and gabled end projections. A string course runs between the floors. A central buttress is present, bearing a datestone above. There are four gabled dormer windows with two-light casements, and three-light windows with mullions and transoms on the ground floor. Doorways to the former dwellings numbered 14 and 15 are situated in arched recesses. The entrances to the former dwellings 15 and 16 were located on the sides of the building. The group value of this building lies in its contribution to the architectural heritage of the area.
