Description
Green's Mill is a windmill built around 1807 for George Green. It was burnt out in 1947 and restored to working order between 1981 and 1986, becoming part of a museum. The structure features a battered round brick tower with five stages, each having renewed staggered casement windows. There are two board doors located at ground level and on the first stage, along with a circular wooden gallery on the first stage. The mill has an ogee wooden cap topped with a finial, a fantail, and four sails—two spring sails and two common sails. While the tower is original, the floors, gallery, cap, and sails have been renewed.
Inside, the mill contains the complete equipment of a 19th-century working mill, with machinery mainly from the 19th century that has been relocated from various mills. The mill is regularly used for grinding domestic flour. This windmill is representative of many similar structures built in the East Midlands during the Napoleonic Wars.
