Description

The National Westminster Bank, located on Manvers Street in Sneinton, Nottingham, is a bank and offices built around 1907. The building features red brick and ashlar construction, with a grey granite plinth, ashlar dressings, and slate roofs that are both gabled and hipped. It is designed in the Baroque Revival style and has two gable and one ridge brick stacks that are coped.

The ground floor is rusticated ashlar with quoins and a modillion cornice. The building has three storeys plus attics and is arranged with five windows across and two down. Most of the windows are plain sashes. The corner site includes an angled entrance bay topped with a modillion pediment, featuring a round-arched opening that holds a grey granite doorcase with columns, a broken pediment adorned with strapwork, and double doors. Above this entrance, there is a canted stone oriel window with three sashes, also topped with a broken pediment and crest. Higher up, there is a plain sash window with a double keystone.

On the left side, facing Southwell Road, there are four round-arched windows, and to the left, a panelled double door with a cornice on brackets and a fanlight. Each floor above features plain sash windows with brick flat arches, with the first-floor windows showcasing double keystones. The attics contain two lead-covered box dormers with round-arched central lights and leaded glazing. The right side, facing Manvers Street, has similar window arrangements, with the ground floor window including sidelights and the upper floor windows arranged in pairs, along with a single dormer.

Inside, the banking hall retains original panelled pilasters and brackets, panelled span beams, and modillion cornices, although the bank fittings have been updated in the late 20th century.
