Description

Bilborough Old Rectory, now an educational support unit, was built in 1842. It features stucco walls, hipped slate roofs, and two rendered ridge stacks. The building has an ashlar plinth and corner pilasters, with windows that are mainly original glazing bar sashes. It is two storeys tall and has a square plan with four bays across the front and three bays deep.

The garden front faces south and includes a two-storey bow window on the right, which has three sashes on each floor, with the larger ground floor sashes being margin glazed. To the left of the bow window, there are three windows on each floor. The entrance front, located on the east side, has a central square porch with corner pilasters and an entablature, along with blocked side openings. To the right of the porch is a sash window, while the left side is blank. Above the porch, there is a small sash window flanked by blank spaces.

On the north side, the building has a recessed centre flanked by pilasters and three windows on each floor. Inside, the original stone cantilever open well staircase is notable, featuring landings and elaborate cast-iron balusters, with two balusters per tread leading to a scrolled wooden handrail. There is also an open well rear stair with stick balusters. The main rooms retain moulded cornices and each floor has two plain painted slate fireplaces.
