Description
The churchyard wall and gateways to the Church of St Peter were built around 1871, with alterations made in 1953 and 1962. The wall is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features mainly gabled coping. It encloses a rectangular churchyard that measures approximately 200 meters by 100 meters. Along Hartley Road, there is a retaining wall with slab coping, which is topped with a renewed railing. At the southeast corner, there is a pointed arched gateway with a stepped gable and finial from 1953, accompanied by 19th-century wrought-iron gates. On Churchfield Lane, there is a smaller gateway in a similar style, dated 1962. This structure is included for its group value.
