Description
Strelley House is a house built between 1667 and 1669, with later additions and alterations from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed of red brick, featuring a stone plinth, blue brick diaperwork, and moulded brick dressings. The building includes a coursed squared stone rear wing and a rendered addition to the east. The roofs are plain tiles with moulded shaped gables and a central ridge stack, along with side wall and rear gable stacks.
The house has two storeys and a four-window range. Most windows are renewed wooden framed casements with leaded glazing. The off-centre square tower porch is two storeys high and has string courses and a shaped gable. The ground floor features three rusticated round-arched openings with an impost band, and above these is a two-light window with a drip mould, along with a painted terracotta coat of arms. To the right, there is a three-light cross casement and above it, a smaller flat-headed casement. To the left are two segment-headed cross casements, with two smaller flat-headed casements above. Further left, there is a single-storey addition with three large round-arched windows. The right gable has a three-light casement on each floor, both with drip moulds, and the rear gable has a similar reset drip mould.
Inside, the building has been altered in the mid and late 20th century. The ground floor contains two rooms with moulded span beams without stops and mainly original joists, along with a plain span beam at the rear. The first floor features a single purlin principal rafter roof, which has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. There is an early 18th-century two-panel door with a fanlight and a late 18th-century six-panel door.
