Description
Diana House, formerly known as the Nurses Home, is a former nurses' residence built between 1878 and 1880, designed by Goddard & Paget. The building features red brick construction with brick and terracotta dressings, plain tile roofs, and tall brick stacks. It has a three-storey plus attic structure with a three-bay front. The entrance, located to the right, has a moulded surround with an overlight and a segmental pediment. The central section includes a pair of glazing bar sash windows flanked by two-storey canted bay windows, with the right bay projecting. Above, there is a tall central sash window with a balcony supported by three stone brackets and an iron balustrade. Another sash window is located above, with a datestone below, and pairs of sashes on either side; the left pair is topped by a pediment, while the right pair features a curved gable.
The Filbert Street front is simpler, featuring a central door with an overlight, a single sash window to the right, and three sash windows to the left. The upper floors have two central sashes with three sashes to the left on both levels, and a tall projecting stack on the right.
The Aylestone Road front includes a low garden wall with ashlar coping and a pair of square gatepiers to the right.
Inside, the building retains original features such as the staircase, doors, some fireplaces, and Minton tile floors in the halls.
