Description
The gates, gate piers, and railings at the west entrance of the cattle market date from around 1870. There are nine pierced cast-iron gate piers that are square in section, featuring pilaster shafts at the corners and pointed arch heads. Between these piers are gates and railings adorned with spandrels made of linked rings. The two piers flanking the central gateway are taller and include cast-iron representations of cattle and ram heads in the tympanum of the arched heads, facing in four directions. At each end, there are red brick piers that have similar but larger stone arched heads with animal heads.
