Description
St Mary's Bridge Chapel is a Grade I listed chapel from the 14th century, which has been somewhat restored. It was originally located on a bridge, of which part of an arch still remains. The south elevation features a timber-framed gable above a 15th-century stone mullioned window with modern leaded lights. The original structure is made of stone, but some restoration work has been done in brick with tile slips, and it has an old tile roof. The interior is small and aisleless. On the north side, there is a modern incised slate tablet that commemorates three Catholic priests who were martyred for their faith near this location on July 24, 1588. St Mary's Bridge Chapel, No 86, and St Mary's Bridge form a group.
