Description
The Ferrybridge War Memorial commemorates those who served in the First and Second World Wars. It was created by the masons Messrs G Foster and is made of Aberdeen granite.
The memorial features a tapering obelisk topped with a relief-carved sword on the front face. Below the sword are the relief-carved dates 1914 and 1918, along with a laurel wreath. The other sides of the obelisk are plain. The obelisk is set on a deep, moulded cap of a square pedestal, which has triangular pediments at the center of each face. The pedestal includes lead lettering; the front face reads "LESS WE FORGET" above twelve names. The right and left side faces each list thirteen names, while the rear face also has thirteen names along with the dates 1939-1945 displayed on the triangular pediment above. The pedestal has a moulded base and is elevated on a three-stepped plinth.
