Description
Cherry Tree Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 17th century, with alterations in the 18th century and later enlargement. It features whitewashed render, likely over magnesian limestone rubble, and has a pantiled roof. The front range is single-depth with two units and a central chimney stack. The building has two low storeys, a plain doorway at the left end (now protected by a glazed porch), and two windows on each floor, all of which are 2-light sliding sashes, except for the right ground floor window, which is a 2-light casement. There is a ridge chimney stack, and the left return wall has a small inserted window. The rear additions are not of special interest.
Inside, each room has a stop-chamfered spine beam, and there is a very deep chimney stack with a stone arched fireplace in the first unit (now concealed). The second unit was formerly unheated and features a former ladder-trap in the ceiling to the left of the fireplace. The first floor has concrete floors. The farmhouse is said to have been used as an inn and retains wooden wainscot from that period.
