Description

Camellia House is a building constructed around 1812 by Jeffry Wyatt for Colonel Thomas Richard and Diana Beaumont. It is located approximately 80 metres west of Bretton Hall in Bretton Park. The house is made of ashlar and glass and features a symmetrical design with seven bays across the front and a diagonally projecting bay at each corner. Square panelled piers support the entablature and blocking course, which is stepped up in the center. The front has full-height glazing and large round-arched windows with glazing bars in the corner bays, framed by engaged Tuscan columns. The projecting bays have hipped glass roofs. At the rear, there is a central projection flanked by side wings that have entrance portals but no glazing. Inside, there are niches on the left and right at the rear. Scrolled iron brackets support the iron gutter, and similar arched braces are found at the roof apex. Iron tie rods connect to two intermediate trusses, which are clasped by pairs of slender iron columns.
