FEATHERSTONE HALL STREET SE 41 NW (west side, off) Purston Jaglin 5/11 Purston Hall - - II

Large house, now offices. 1820s and 1863; altered. Sandstone ashlar, slate roof. Rectangular double pile plan with service wings at left end. Front block, facing south, 2 storeys, 5 x 3 bays, symmetrical; 1st floor band, 3- bay centre breaking forwards slightly has a rectangular single storey porch, containing a round-headed doorway with imposts, semicircular fanlight (lacking glazing bars) all within an eared architrave, a moulded cornice and low parapet (modern ramped approach to porch not included in the item); above this porch, a doorway with moulded architrave (modern railings to porch balcony not included in the item); otherwise, 4 sashed windows without glazing bars on each floor, and sill bands to both floors; moulded cornice, low pitched hipped roof (now lacking chimneys). Return walls in matching style, and 3-bay service wing set back at left end similar except that windows are mostly 12-pane sashes. Attached rear block under parallel roof, 5 x 2 bays, in matching style, has pedimented centre, with date "1863" in the pediment.
