Description
Milepost adjacent to the White Swan public house is a milestone from the mid to late 19th century. It features a cast-iron triangular front mounted on a stone post with a rounded top. The raised letters on the milestone indicate the following distances: "WAKEFIELD & AUSTERLANDS ROAD MIDDLESTOWN HUDDERSFIELD 8½ MILES 2 MILES WAKEFIELD 5 MILES." This stone is located on the Wakefield-Austerlands turnpike road, which was in use from 1759 to 1882.
