Description
The flanking screen walls and gate piers attached to the west front of Heath Hall, which connect the East and West pavilions, were constructed around 1767. The walls are made of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar coping and piers, and feature carved urns by R. T. Parsons from Bath, with one urn replaced around 1984 by local sculptor S. Hines. The walls are topped with three ball finials on either side of the gate piers, which have plinths and square piers of rusticated ashlar that project forward from the lower flanking piers. These piers also feature ball finials, a band, and a frieze with a moulded recess containing a raised circle. The cornice is topped with carved stone urns, and the surface is decorated with fleurons.
